Got Nothin'

Met an interesting guy the other night from Peru. Though my Japanese isn't great, I speak very good Japanish, or is it Japanol?

...anyway, watching the clouds gather right now, I think they're waiting until 11:30 to unleash their downpour, just in time for me to walk to work.

Long time no post.

I know it's been awhile, and I kind of let my live journal posts lag...

I'm in Japan right now, doing both close up shows and stage shows. It's wonderful here, but I miss being able to read the signs and street names.

Before when I've come here it's always been with a large cast of people, so this is my first time here being on my own. I do speak Japanese (not fluently though), but in the nine years since I lived here before, I've forgotten quite a lot, so it's always a bit of challenge.

Talking during my magic sets, however, isn't too difficult. I do lots of shows back in Vegas for the Japanese, so my magic is a lot more in practice than my going-to-the-post-office vocabulary.

Hope everything is good with everyone...I'll probably be posting a lot more regularly now.

License Plate

I saw a license plate yesterday that said "MVP4GOD"...
And I'm thinking...isn't pride a sin?

Inaugural Ball!!!

I found out yesterday that I will be performing at one of the inaugural balls in Washington DC! I'm so excited! I leave on Monday but because the planes are so full, I can't get back until Friday. I found after the first show at the Venetian and was bouncing off the walls all day long!

There will be about 20 magicians performing at this party from all over the country, and this is supposed to be one of the first stops Obama makes after getting sworn in. I've never been to a historical event before! This is so exciting!

It's also cool, because we are both from Hawaii originally and went to the same school! (not at the same time obviously)

Though my knit shop will be closed while I'm there, I plan on having my computer with me so that I can blog about it! Yay!

I am Traumatized!!! (and can't spell)

So I'm working on a new magic trick...well, not new exactly, but new to me. I needed to get a duck egg and needed to blow it (insert sexual joke here). Sounds simple, right? Well, not so much.

There's a Filipino Store near my house that sells duck eggs...Score!...I went in and bought some. They come in packs of 18 and they were quite expensive, but such is the price of the art we call magic.

I was so excited to get started. Got set up in the living room with all the acoutrements (did I mention I can't spell?). The boyfriend was busy with rope for his boat...so there we were...I began the process.

It started off normal at first...well, normal for anyone who's blown a chicken egg before (insert another sexual joke here). Then, red stuff started coming out...and then more stuff...gross stuff...I thought, oops! Maybe one of these got fertilized by mistake.

So I tried another, with the same result...and I swear part of a beak came out of that hole. The boyfriend said to crack it open and see...silly me...I did...He screemed like a little girl, I glanced and joined in with my own screams. I looked away and couldn't speak...yes, there was baby unborn duck inside.

He kindly got rid of the bowl and got me a glass of wine...a couple of glasses later, I was able to deal with the situation...I called the store, and apparently it's a Filipino delicacy to eat duck eggs like that.

Now I don't have a problem with people eating that...but I would have prefered a little warning.

One of the other performers at the Venetian is from the Filipines and is kindly going to take the eggs off my hands today.

So...does anyone in Vegas know where to buy UNFERTILIZED duck eggs?

Books and Sales and Life, Oh My!

Well, I didn't get any sales on Black Friday, but I did get a few hearts...a couple of them were strictly buyers who didn't have shops, so I think that's promising. The sale continues:

All Things Tangled

In other news, I just finished reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy. It was a fascinating book about life on the road after the supposed end of the world. I don't think it's a book I'd recomend to everyone. The writing was flawless, but it was so depressing and gave me feelings of hopelessness...I'm still not sure whether I liked it or not...I'm still turning the story and the characters over and over in my head...but I guess that's what a well written book is supposed to do.

Goings on...

Well, I've been busy as of late, and it's still going strong. I almost screwed myself this week because I forgot to get one of my days covered for a gig on Wednesday. To make matters worse, it was a gig booked by "the russians" which makes covering at the Venetian even more difficult because most of the people who can cover are russian and doing the gig.

Luckily I found someone...came to my rescue...yay! my job and gig are safe.

In other news:
My etsy site is getting tons of hits...over 3000 so far, but no new sales yet. I'm trying to stock up as much as I can just in case I have a Christmas Rush.

Anyway, there's a lot that's new up there since I last posted about it here...check it out if you have the time.

Famous in NLV

There's a small paper in the North Las Vegas area that a friend told me my picture was in...I went to the site and lo and behold! There I was! Cool!

Last night...

Last night I got to perform at the Liberache house. Not the museum, but his actual house! It was so cool...I was kind of disappointed that they didn't have the piano shaped pool anymore...*sigh*...they had filled it in and turned it into a ballroom.

It was also nice to see my friend Will who I met when I first moved to Vegas...He's a Liberache impersonator. He was there to greet the guests and play the piano...Marilyn Monroe was there too, and I think they did a show together after I left.

I didn't stick around...I'd had a 3 hour gig right before the one at the house, and I was tired and hungry.

Fun, fun, fun.

Pre-emptive Step

If I haven't already, I know I will soon bore you all with more and more knitting posts...soooo...I started a new blog just for knitting!

I'll still be posting here, and occasionally a knitting one too...so don't worry, this isn't a farewell to the liveJournal community.

Now I just need to wait for something to happen so that I can blog about it.
